Premier Anna Bligh has launched a plan to use the State's resources to fuel the education of the next generation of Queenslanders.
The Premier released From Mines to Minds: A proposal to establish a Queensland Education Trust at West End State School today.
The paper proposes the establishment of a multi-billion dollar Queensland Education Trust using 50% of future LNG royalties – projected at more than $1.8 billion in the next 10 years alone. |

Massive skills package to support disaster affected industries |

Member for Barron River and Parliamentary Secretary assisting the Premier and Economic Development in the Far North, Steve Wettenhall has welcomed a massive $83 million skills package to help stricken communities get back on their feet. Mr Wettenhall said Premier Anna Bligh and Prime Minister Julia Gillard had announced the package to help Queensland industries, businesses, apprentices and trainees affected by the summer floods or Cyclone Yasi. “This is about helping communities recover as quickly as possible,” Mr Wettenhall said.

Great Barrier Reef International Marine College officially opened |

Premier Anna Bligh has officially opened the nation’s first comprehensive international marine training centre in Cairns.
Ms Bligh said the Great Barrier Reef International Marine College offered world class facilities across the spectrum of marine industry careers – from deckhands to emergency response specialists.
“This one-stop-shop training facility will mean more jobs and more international and students from other states heading to Cairns,” Ms Bligh said.
“It will help meet the growing demand for marine industry workers such as deckhands and means students will no longer have to travel Sydney or Hobart for specialised water-based safety training.
