Traffic lights to be installed at Arnold Street intersection |

Traffic lights will be installed at the intersection of the Captain Cook Highway and Arnold Street north of Cairns to improve safety at the black spot, Member for Barron River Steve Wettenhall said today.
Mr Wettenhall said the decision to install the lights at the intersection was made after the results of a trial closure of the right-turn movement onto the highway, which concluded last week, and were assessed this week.

Barron River MP Steve Wettenhall has today called for improvements to roundabouts on the Captain Cook Highway north of Cairns. "Although Main Roads has made a number of changes on this section of road to make road conditions safer for cyclists, I believe more can be done" said Mr Wettenhall.

Far north's emergency services personnel shine at Australia Day Awards |

Dedicated Department of Emergency Services (DES) staff members and volunteers in the far north have been honoured in the annual Australia Day Achievement Awards today.
Member for Barron River Steve Wettenhall congratulated the recipients, at today's ceremony held at Cairns City Council rooms.

Springborg gets an "F" for dodgy schools policy |

Member for Barron River Steve Wettenhall today called on Opposition Leader, Lawrence Springborg, to come clean about which schools would be affected by plans to raid funds set aside for new schools, new classrooms and maintenance.
Mr Springborg let slip just two months ago that he would "divert funding" from the $850 million State Schools of Tomorrow plan to help fund his ill-informed education promises.
