Know your numbers and prevent a stroke

“The week-long Know your numbers program provides free blood pressure checks at over 500 local blood pressure stations throughout Queensland and Victoria,” he said.

“The program has also established permanent pressure station sites in Queensland pharmacies, and there are now over 200 pharmacies who offer free blood pressure checks throughout the year.

Kuranda Scenic Rail Service Back on Track

The iconic Kuranda Scenic Railway will reopen today after QR’s head of safety gave the service the all clear.

The first service will leave Cairns Friday 7 May at 8:30am, and Member for Barron River Steve Wettenhall is encouraging tourists and residents to get on board.

Be heart smart next week
Member for Barron River Steve Wettenhall is reminding residents to be heart smart and learn about the warning signs of a heart attack this Heart Week (2-8 May).

Mr Wettenhall said this year, the Heart Foundation is asking Queenslanders one important question - Will you recognise your heart attack?

"Heart disease is the single leading cause of death in Australia - one person dies from a heart attack every 46 minutes," he said.

"There's no better time than Heart Week to learn about the symptoms of a heart attack.

"Knowing the warning signs and acting quickly can reduce damage to heart muscle and increase the chance of survival.

There’s nothing like Barron Gorge!
Steve Wettenhall at Barron Falls

Member for Barron River and Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism Steve Wettenhall has entered Tourism Australia's ‘There's nothing like Australia' campaign and is urging others to do the same.

Mr Wettenhall said he entered the spectacular Barron Gorge National Park in the competition which invites Australians to share their favourite Australian holiday spot with the world.

"Barron Gorge is one of Queensland's oldest National Parks, located in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, and is just spectacular," he said.

"It's accessible by foot on the historic trails, by scenic railway, the Skyrail cablecar, coach or by private vehicle making it a very popular tourist destination.

"I believe there is really nothing quite like it and Far North Queenslanders are so lucky to have this in their very own backyard."
