Barron River MP Steve Wettenhall is urging young people in his electorate to get creative and express themselves for the chance to win a share in $6000 worth of prizes. He said the Live it Now online competition was an opportunity for Barron River's young people to have their voices heard on issues they care about, and to express themselves in a creative way in the lead up to National Youth Week celebrations. "This is a chance for our local young people to share their thoughts, feelings and opinions about issues that are important to them," Mr Wettenhall said. "It's a great opportunity for young people to present their ideas and views in a public forum. "Previous year's entries addressed issues such as youth homelessness, drug and alcohol use, mental health, body image, violence and peer pressure, as well as concerns about the environment and the difficulties of growing up in today's society." Mr Wettenhall said entrants could use any medium they chose, including still photography, video, animation, sound recording or written word. "The prizes on offer reflect a commitment to fostering youth creativity, with the four winners having the choice between a digital SLR camera, laptop, and music or video editing software valued at $1500 each," Mr Wettenhall said. Anyone wanting to submit an entry should go to www.youth.qld.gov.au and follow the Youth Week links to the online competition. The competition has two categories - Junior (12-17 years) and Senior (18-25 years) - and runs until 5pm on April 30. Youth Week will run from April 10-18 and the Bligh Government is funding 28 events at a cost of $70,000.
