REDLYNCH STATE COLLEGE $20.7 MILLION STAGE THREE OFFICIALLY OPENS
A tree planting ceremony marked the official opening of Redlynch State College's $20.7 million third stage.

Member for Barron River Steve Wettenhall said the construction of stage three generated 188 jobs and paved the way for the college to accept its first intake of Year 12 students in 2011.

"This is an exciting time for the school, new facilities will improve the students' learning environment and allow for continued enrolment growth," Mr Wettenhall said.

"The completion of stage three means students can now enjoy ultra-modern facilities including a manual arts technology centre, four-classroom visual arts block, science block and hospitality and business centre.

"An extension to the performing arts and creative technology block will provide an enjoyable learning environment," he said.

Mr Wettenhall said stage three included a $3.8 million covered sports facility, scheduled for completion in July that would provide cyclone shelter to protect the students' safety during inclement weather.

Minister for Education and Training Geoff Wilson said that in addition to new educational facilities, seven extra teachers were appointed this year, taking the total of teaching staff to more than 95.

"I acknowledge the Federal Government's contribution of $9.5 million towards the cost of stage three," Mr Wilson said.

"The 2009 -10 State Budget allocated almost $1.84 billion to continue to modernise and build schools across Queensland.

"This includes $1.16 billion for school infrastructure under the Australian Government's Building the Education Revolution."

Redlynch State College initially opened as a primary school in 1932 and as a middle school on its current site in 2007. It now offers Prep to Year 10 and has an enrolment of 1300 students.
