New Book Celebrates Queensland’s Unique Wet Tropics
The colourful history of the Wet Tropics of Queensland World Heritage Area has been captured in a story titled, ‘From the Heart'.

The book, which traces the story of the World Heritage Area, was launched yesterday by the Member for Barron River Steve Wettenhall MP.

"‘From the Heart' is 80 pages of stories, art and pictures reflecting the love, passion and dedication of the World Heritage Area," Mr Wettenhall said.

"It begins with the fight for World Heritage listing and traces the journey through to today's tree planting activities, environmental education and tourism.

"The World Heritage Area is now a uniting force in our community rather than the dividing one it was 20 years ago.

"This book graphically illustrates the depth and diversity of support and appreciation for the natural and cultural values of the Wet Tropics.

"The stories and artwork also show the strong links between artists and our natural environment.

"The Queensland Government is proud of its achievements in protecting and managing the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area.

"I warmly congratulate the Wet Tropics Management Authority on this account of the area's first 20 years and I look forward to a second volume."

Around 250 people attended the launch of ‘From the Heart' at The Sebel, Cairns. Speakers included Peter Stanton, Mike Berwick, Henrietta Marrie and Linda Venn, who all have a long history with the area.

Copies of ‘From the Heart' will be available from the Wet Tropics Management Authority (First Floor, 15 Lake St, Cairns), email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , or phone 07 4052 0525.
