| Community groups in Barron River receives funding boost |
|
Member for Barron River Steve Wettenhall today announced the latest funding boost for community groups and non-profit organisations in the area.
"In the latest funding round, Barron River received more than $113,000 through the Gambling Community Benefit Fund," Mr Wettenhall said. "These grants are always a welcome and celebrated win for Queensland community groups." The Gambling Community Benefit Fund, which uses a percentage of state revenue raised through gambling activities, offers grants of up to $30,000 to enrich and enhance community-run organisations. Grants of more than $30,000 are considered for more complex projects. "It is vital that the community benefit funds continue to contribute to local projects that develop or assist the Queensland community - giving back to those in need," Mr Wettenhall said. "And the funding process has just become easier for Queensland community groups." A new and innovative online grants management system to help not-for-profit community organisations keep track of their funding applications will soon be launched by the State Government. "From the beginning of this month, community groups can lodge their funding applications online - cutting the paper trail and reducing red tape," Mr Wettenhall said. "The new electronic system will make applying for funding more manageable." Since the inception of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund, more than $423 million has been provided for over 35,300 Queensland projects. To apply for community benefit fund grants, visit the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation website at www.olgr.qld.gov.au Grant allocations are announced quarterly and funding rounds close at the end of August, November, February and May.
