| Ergon Energy Customers give $4million to RFDS |
An impressive milestone in community spirit was announced today with Ergon Energy customers having donated $4 million to the Royal Flying Doctor Service through their power bills.
Far North Queenslanders committed nearly $14,000 to the RFDS in December alone and some $640,000 since Ergon Energy's donation scheme started in the year 2000. The support comes via regular donations through customer's electricity bills. They can donate $2 or $5 per quarterly bill, or make larger one-off donations if they wish.Ergon Energy Acting Chief Executive Graeme Finlayson said the $4 million milestone was an uplifting testament to the generosity of regional Queenslanders. "Just over 18 months ago, donations had totalled $2.5 million since our customer contribution scheme started in the year 2000, a worthy milestone in itself. "Considering that now $4 million in donations have been received, that commitment will have nearly doubled in less than two years. "We are nothing short of humbled by our customer's generosity and incredibly proud to ensure these donations get to their very worthy and vital cause," he said. RFDS Queensland Chief Executive Officer Mr Nino Di Marco said the majority of Ergon Energy customer donations went towards the organisations aircraft replacement program. "We also use some of the funds to update medical equipment carried on board the aircraft as well as assisting in bridging any shortfall that may occur in operational costs," Mr Di Marco said. Steve Wettenhall, Member for Barron River presented the cheque on behalf of Minister for Energy Stephen Robertson at today's event. "Many thousands of donors have continued their commitment to the RFDS through Ergon energy's contribution scheme over the years and they are incredibly grateful for this," Mr Wettenhall said. "I would also like to acknowledge the work of Ergon Energy's Contact Centre staff, who are a vital link in encouraging these contributions and should share the congratulations for this achievement". |
