Gambling and Other Legislation Amendment Bill

Mr WETTENHALL (Barron River-ALP) (12.41 pm): I rise to support the Gambling and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2009. The amendments to the Liquor Act contained in this bill have been deemed necessary to get the balance right between minimising the risk of liquor related harm and
improving the ability of Queensland's hospitality industries to operate effectively and without unnecessary red tape.

Victims of Crime Assistance Bill
Mr WETTENHALL (Barron River-ALP) (3.12 pm): It is with pleasure that I rise to speak in support of the Victims of Crime Assistance Bill, which essentially replaces the Criminal Offence Victims Act 1995 and the provisions under the Criminal Code prior to the introduction of the Criminal Offence Victims Act that provided a limited avenue through which victims could obtain compensation from injuries arising as a result of criminal acts.
